Agricultural Biorefinery Production of High Value Bioproducts from Agricultural Biomass and Residues

 

Another priority project under development is manufacture of

bio-based formaldehyde-free adhesives. Current wood adhesives are mainly formaldehyde based, which continuously release toxic formaldehyde in the end products such as in furniture, wood flooring and composites, etc.  These types of adhesives are harmful to the environment and can cause extensive health risks. The substitute being created by WMB collaborating with Western University is environmentally benign. The other high-value

bio-products under development are cellulose-based biopolymers such as bio-plastics and surfactants, and lignin-based biomaterials such as hydrophilic polyurethane foams as greenhouse planting media.
